Job description
National Defense University (NDU) supports the joint warfighter and Intelligence Community by providing rigorous Joint Professional Military Education to members of the U.S. Armed Forces and select others in order to develop leaders who have the ability to operate and creatively think in an unpredictable and complex world. This is a Title 10 Excepted Service Appointment. Appointment is not to exceed 2 years with the possibility for extension.
Major Duties: Instructional faculty are the core of the National Intelligence College academic mission. They are responsible for delivering high-quality instruction, mentoring students, conducting relevant research and contributing to the NIC-NDU community and the broader intelligence enterprise. Other duties include: Maintaining academic currency through rigorous scholarship; Participating in the development and implementation of the academic program; Mentoring students and assessing their academic and professional performance; Serving on committees and performing other College leadership duties as assigned; Contributing to the professional development of faculty colleagues; Developing and maintaining professional relationships with key stakeholders and decision-makers in Washington, DC and around the world. Teaching and Instruction Teaches classified core and elective courses in one or more NIC programs (degrees, certificates, and/or JPME). Develops expertise and teaches classified courses within a specific concentration or topic area as required by the Dean and Department Chair. Implements and enforces appropriate learning standards and rigor, using outcome assessment data for course, curricular, and program improvement. Integrates classified intelligence products and capabilities into the learning environment. Actively participates in the management of College curriculum through the effective and collegial engagement with quality circles and other bodies (formal and informal) focused on curriculum management. Student Advising and Mentorship Serves as committee chair for graduate research projects in accordance with department chair, program director, and Dean guidance. Advises students with respect to admissions, degree options, degree requirements, and the graduation process. Research and Professional Engagement. Conducts research on specific areas of intelligence concern. Maintains currency on scholarship in their fields of expertise and fields related to their teaching assignments. As appropriate, coordinates for guest speakers from the IC and national security community to enhance the student learning environment. Represents the NIC and NDU at DoW, ODNI, IC agency meetings, conferences, and symposia. Maintains active liaison with government and private sector civilians, military, and academics associated with intelligence research and education NIC, NDU, and Institutional Service. Participates, as needed, in outreach, engagement activities, and governance. Assists, as applicable, with compliance audits, program reviews, outreach efforts, and other institutional assessments on behalf of the accrediting organization. Performs other duties as assigned.
