Organizational Location: This position is with the Department of Homeland Security, within U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Office of Field Operations, Boston Field Office, Field Analysis and Intelligence Unit (FAIU), located in Boston, Massachusetts.
Joining the Customs and Border Protection Office of Field Operations will allow you to use your expertise to manage one or more national programs in order to help to detect and prevent terrorists and instruments of terror from entering/exiting the U.S. Apply for this exciting opportunity to direct programs that strengthen the Department's ability to perform homeland security. This position starts at a salary of $123,885.00 (GS-13, Step 1) to $161,053.00 (GS-13, Step 10). In this position you will become a key member of a team of homeland security professionals responsible for managing and ensuring the performance of the full range of inspection, intelligence analysis, examination, and law enforcement activities relating to arrival and departure of persons, conveyances, and merchandise at Ports of Entry (POE). Typical work assignments include: Developing and deploying innovative strategies to prevent the illegal entry of terrorists and their associates into the United States. Applying a thorough comprehensive knowledge of program related legislation and regulations and an extensive knowledge of inspection and investigative techniques including the preparation of reports that substantiate findings and serve as a basis of legal action. Coordinating enforcement efforts with Joint Multi-Task Force Teams, Tactical Terrorism Response Team (TTRT), Joint Terrorism Task Force (JTTF) and other Task Forces; serving as a liaison to other federal agencies and managers in DHS and CBP. Serving as the focal point for unifying, coordinating, and overseeing anti-terrorism and contraband enforcement efforts within the geographic area and among the ports under the field office's purview. Managing the field operations oversight of measures related to preventing the illegal entry of terrorists and their associates, anti-smuggling, anti-fraud, criminality, contraband, and other enforcement efforts. In accordance with CBP Directive No. 1335-018, U.S. Customs and Border Protection Rotation Program and to meet agency needs, this position will be filled on a temporary basis not-to-exceed 1 year up to an additional 2 years in 1 year increments for a maximum of 3 years. You may be returned, at any time, to the permanent assignment within the Office of Field Operations. The Office of Field Operations may utilize flexibility to be placed within any sub-office/directorate and to place you in the same or similar position with equivalent grade and pay. The return is not subject to the procedures found in 5 C.F.R. §§ 351, 432, 752, and 771. If you are currently at the grade level of the position announced, this action will result in a reassignment, and you may be returned at any time to a same or similar position held prior to this temporary assignment. If you currently hold a grade level higher than the grade being announced, this action will result in a change to lower grade. You may be returned, at any time, to the permanent assignment within the Office of Field Operations. The Office of Field Operations may utilize flexibility to be placed within any sub-office/directorate and to place you in the same or similar position with equivalent grade and pay. Your return will be based on the agency rotational policy. All Selectees will be required to sign an Employee Rotational Agreement as a condition of employment. At management's discretion, you may be permanently placed to this position without further competition. If going from a LEO Covered Position to a Secondary CBPO Special Retirement Covered (SRC) Position: Please be advised that when you enter on duty in this Secondary CBPO SRC position you will no longer be covered under the Special Retirement System for Law Enforcement Officers, but will only be covered under the Federal Employees Retirement System (FERS).
