Job description

This position is located within the Construction Branch for the Eastern Federal Lands Highway Division (EFLHD), Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) in Ashburn, Virginia; Sevierville, Tennessee; or Tupelo, Mississippi. The Construction Control Inspector is responsible for the physical construction of federal projects under the jurisdiction of Eastern Federal Lands.

As a Construction Control Inspector, you will: Maintain/monitor fiscal control relative to the execution of the construction contract. Draft contract modifications for review by the Contracting Officer (CO) and are delegated the responsibility of negotiating the costs of changes with the contractor in accordance with provisions in the contract. Provide construction management control and surveillance of the work being performed by the contractor. Identify anticipated problems and take appropriate and timely corrective action. Be responsible for assisting in the enforcement of established construction specification requirements; determine the necessity for issuance of contract administration correspondence and contract modifications to the contractor in accordance with established policies and procedures. Recommend changes in design, specifications, and schedules to the Construction Operations Engineer (COE), as appropriate, to meet field conditions. The ideal candidate for this position is a construction manager or inspector with experience independently and effectively serving as a contracting officer's representative on a variety of highway or bridge construction projects. Primary duties include ensuring compliance with contract specifications, providing technical direction and guidance, and delivering contract administration services and support.
