Job description
This position is located in the Department of Health & Human Services (HHS), Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), Office of the Actuary (OACT), National Health Statistics Group (NHSG). As a Economist, GS-0110-14, incumbent employs a variety of techniques to provide comprehensive, balanced estimation and analysis of the constantly changing health care system. The incumbent is viewed by management as the key Agency focal point for one or more of the activities listed below.
Analyzing economic factors influencing health spending and cost trends, including income, prices, utilization, technology, demographics, and insurance. Developing short, medium, and long-term projections of National Health Expenditures using economic models, assumptions, and CMS spending projections. Initiating and conducting complex statistical and economic studies related to health care costs, financing, provider conditions, and Federal health programs. Evaluating large health care data sets, including Medicare cost reports, Medicare and Medicaid claims, provider surveys, and third-party payer data. Designing new or modified economic models, analytical frameworks, and methodologies when established approaches or precedents are limited. Advising senior Agency officials, congressional staff, and Executive Branch decision-makers on national health expenditures and health care financing. Preparing reports, briefings, journal articles, charts, tables, and presentations that communicate economic findings to policymakers and professional audiences.
