Job description
You will serve as a Field Unit Local Hiring Authority (FUL) - Lead Park Guide within the Interpretation division. Career-Seasonal appointments are permanent positions and include the same benefits as permanent appointments, but do not provide work on a year-round basis. You will work for approximately 51 weeks, and you will be in a non-pay status for 1 pay period (2 weeks) in July for the remainder of the year. First time hires to the Federal government normally start at the step 1 rate.
Works with supervisor to establish Interpretive and/or Education program outlines and presents established talks normally requiring application of broad subject-matter knowledge of the features of interest at Saguaro National Park. Programs may include detailed and specific interpretation and education of the outstanding features in Saguaro from the standpoint of scientific or historical interest, the background of events leading up to the natural feature or phenomenon; and/or the facts, events, personalities and circumstances associated with the resource. In addition, the talks and walks provide general information about other sites of public interest; facilities for public use; pertinent rules and regulations; and other matters designed to stimulate a sense of appreciation and thus encourage protection ad preservation of the scenic, scientific or historic features. The talks and walks may be given in conjunction with live demonstrations, the use of electronic maps, props, photographic images, and other audio-visual devices. Opens, closes, and operates the park visitor center and contact stations, in accordance with established operating procedures. Provides a wide range of services to visitors, including assistance with lost articles, car trouble, and basic first aid. Provides information about weather conditions, highway routes. park and cooperating association bookstore sales, stocking and fee collection. Distributes and balances workload among employees as directed by the supervisor, in accordance with established workflow or job specialization assuring timely accomplishment of assigned workload. Monitors status and progress of employee work; and make day-to-day adjustments in accordance with established priorities, obtaining assistance from the supervisor on problems that may arise.
