Job description
This position is located in the Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs, in Office of Iran and Iraq Affairs (NEA/IIR), within the U.S. Department of State. The Bureau is responsible for developing and implementing U.S. foreign policy in the Near East region, advancing diplomatic efforts, and safeguarding U.S. national security interests in one of the most complex and strategically significant regions of the world.
Serves as the chief action officer and is the initial point of contact for incoming Iran and Iraq-related counterterrorism actions. Maintains expertise in counterterrorism policy of regional governments and organizations, counterterrorism capacity-building programs, counterterrorism finance issues, and military cooperation on counterterrorism in the NEA region Prepares State Department principals for their participation in interagency meetings, which includes drafting counterterrorism related briefing materials. Serves as a liaison with other bureaus and relevant Iran and Iraq Desk Officers, and U.S. Mission Iraq, on terrorism issues. Develops and proposes resolutions of program policy and procedural issues; and coordinates implementation of management decisions on the program.
