Job description

This position is part of the WAPA-RMR-Rocky Mountain Region. As a Heavy Mobile Equipment Mechanic, you will be responsible for maintaining WAPA owned vehicles and equipment. Diagnose the source of equipment trouble, determine the extent of repairs required, and determine the most efficient method for repair, including in-house or contracting out. Repair equipment under pressure due to time constraints such as power outages, conflicting customer requirements, etc.

As a Heavy Mobile Equipment Mechanic, you will: Analyze malfunctions and repair, rebuild and maintain specialized heavy-duty trucks and construction equipment, such as man lifts, diggers/cranes, tractor-trailer combinations, loaders, snow cats, cranes, motor graders, trench-digging machines, and bulldozers. Maintain, modify, repair, disassemble and/or overhaul hydraulic and pneumatic systems and components that actuate mechanisms or produce, control, and regulate the flow of fluids (liquids and gases). Test, repair, overhaul, modify, and maintain electrical equipment of a specialized nature such as alternators, voltage regulating equipment, generator switching and control panels, and junction boxes, in motor vehicles, heavy equipment, and construction equipment. Operate and inspect machines or equipment to diagnose defects. Dismantle and reassemble equipment, using hoists and hand tools. Examine parts for damage or excessive wear, using micrometers and gauges. Test for and isolate malfunctions in hydraulic and pneumatic systems or components, utilizing technical manuals and schematics. Fabricate mounts and install accessory equipment on vehicles, including utility beds, winches, bumpers, generators, etc.
