Job description
This position is part of the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation (DFC) serving as a Insurance Projects Specialist (Political Risk Insurance Underwriter). You will manage the most complex, sensitive, or precedent-setting insurance projects that involve significant risk and judgments of insurable interests; requiring expertise in underwriting, country risk analysis, and establishing and documenting terms for insurability.
Perform a range of activities in the political risk insurance origination process, including reviewing business plans, project documents, loan agreements, contracts with foreign governments, and project information memoranda. Conducts due diligence on projects in developing countries which includes evaluating the political and sovereign risks, evaluating the financing structure of the project, and reviewing legal documents. Provides concise written analysis of pertinent host country political, sovereign, and project risks related to the developing country where projects are located. Developing structures using DFC's political risk insurance products that mobilize private sector capital in emerging markets. Presents the political risk insurance approval papers to the required approval committees and expertly explains the coverages, exclusions and risks. Negotiates and executes political risk insurance contracts that align with DFC requirements and priorities. Independently identifies new business opportunities that promote the DFC political risk insurance program, while managing relationships with clients, partners, as well as with other insurers and brokers.
