Maintenance Worker

This position is located in Scotts Bluff National Monument. The primary purpose of the position is to perform recurring building and/or utility maintenance and operation duties and to assist journeymen and other higher graded maintenance workers. This position is being filled under the Field Unit Local Hiring Authority (FUL). See below under Additional Information for further eligibility guidance.

Performs a wide range of custodial and grounds-related duties. including but not limited to janitorial work; landscape maintenance; and snow removal. The role involves performing custodial tasks such as cleaning the visitor center, offices, restrooms, storerooms, public areas, and workspaces using industrial vacuums, chemicals, and cleaning solutions to maintain floors, carpets, walls, and ceilings. Supports interior and exterior upkeep by removing litter and debris and completing cyclical project work such as preparing surfaces for painting, performing stucco repairs, setting up scaffolding, and assisting with rehabilitation tasks. Additional duties include road and trail maintenance, sign installation, pavement striping, and trail surface repairs. Provides summer grounds care-such as mowing, trimming, fertilizing, watering, and planting-and winter maintenance activities including shoveling, snow blowing, light plowing, and applying salt or sand to walkways. The role requires operating and performing basic maintenance on related equipment. Provides general labor support for the maintenance of buildings, grounds, roads, trails, and associated facilities.
