Job description

You will serve as a Maintenance Worker (Seasonal) (FUL) WG-4749-5 working in either Milton or Smyrna Delaware for the Coastal Delaware National Wildlife Refuge Complex. This is a temporary not to exceed 1039 hours position. This position is being filled under the Field Unit Local Hiring Authority (FUL). This is a temporary appointment intended for seasonal work that is less than 6 months or 1040 hours from the date of appointment/service year. It is expected this position will be terminated upon completion of the seasons work. The agency may non-competitively rehire an eligible temporary seasonal worker in subsequent years who works less than 6 months or 1040 hours in their service year. As a Seasonal - Maintenance Worker your duties will include, but are not limited to, the following: Maintains station grounds by mowing lawns, mulching, weed eating, trimming shrubs, and spraying weeds with chemicals. Utilizing hand tools or tractors and skid steer type loaders performs work of spreading gravel or soils to rough grades. Assists in snow removal using hand tools, snow blowers, snow plows and tractor loaders. Maintains walking trails, boardwalks and observation points by keeping them clean from debris, trimming encroaching shrubs and by making simple repairs such as replacing broken boards. Frequently uses chainsaws to trim trees and remove fallen trees from trails or roadways. Installs and maintains display panels, visitor information and traffic control signage, and exhibits to assist station visitors. Washes and fuels vehicles, performs such services as checking, changing oil and water; checking fluid levels in crankcases, power steering, transmissions, batteries, radiators, braking systems, etc. ; changes, repairs, rotates, replaces tires; replaces oil find air filters; checks, adjusts, replaces fan belts, hoses, and similar items. Maintains boats and marine engines, performs such services as checking, changing oil; changing and checking gear case lubricants, power steering fluids, batteries, trailer braking systems, trailer lights, boat navigation lights, etc. ; changes, repairs, rotates, replaces trailer tires; replaces oil find air filters; checks, adjusts, replaces belts, hoses, and similar items.
