Job description
This position is located at Florissant Fossil Beds National Monument.
Major duties include: Maintains accession, catalog, and loan records in compliance with NPS standards. Completes accessions and ensures documentation is accurate and complete. Processes incoming and outgoing loans following NPS requirements for security, environment, packing, and transport. Conducts or assists with annual inventories and contributes to the Collections Management Report. Independently identifies, sorts, classifies, and catalogs museum objects; enters and maintains accurate cataloging data in the NPS catalog system. Performs routine cleaning, stabilization, labeling, and handling of permanent collection items and recommends appropriate care procedures. Monitors environmental conditions in storage and exhibit areas, including temperature, relative humidity, and pest activity. Maintains monitoring equipment, compiles climate data into summaries and reports, and documents the physical condition of storage and exhibition spaces. Serves as a team member or leader on curatorial projects such as backlog elimination, organization of archival and photographic materials, creation of finding aids, and storage reorganization. Recommends methodologies, instructs others, monitors progress, and prepares project reports. Responds to in-person, phone, and written inquiries regarding collections; assists NPS staff, visiting professionals, and researchers by locating and retrieving collection information. Oversees interns and volunteers working in storage areas or on cataloging tasks and provides specialized tours or talks about collections and exhibits.
