Park Manager (Superintendent)

The incumbent serves as the Superintendent of Andersonville National Historic Site in Andersonville, GA. The incumbent of this position serves as Superintendent of the Andersonville National Historic Site, with responsibility for overseeing the preservation, interpretation, maintenance, administration, and development of the park, and the safety and well-being of staff, volunteers, and visitors of the park. Provides leadership in the development of policies, standards, and procedures which govern the professional conduct of work related to the administration and implementation of the park's programs, including the functional areas of public use management, resource stewardship, education and interpretation, fiscal and human resources management, park maintenance, visitor services, safety management, park partnerships, public affairs, budget planning and execution, and park development. Andersonville National Historic Site comprises three distinct components: the former site of the Camp Sumter military prison, the Andersonville National Cemetery, and the National Prisoner of War Museum, which opened in 1998 to honor all U.S. prisoners of war in all wars. In all, the park maintains a total of approximately 515 acres - 481 acres owned by the Federal government and 34 acres of non-Federal land managed by the park. Visitor use is distributed year-round with the largest numbers in the spring, fall, and summer, followed by winter. Physical Demands: Most of the work is performed indoors in an office setting. There may be some extended walking through facilities and carrying of light items such as files, manuals, and government property. Mentally stressful and taxing situations are present at times. Travel to other areas is occasionally required. A valid driver's license is required. Work Environment: Work is performed primarily in an office setting. However, some work is also performed outdoors in various types of weather and terrain.
