Registered Nurse (Assistant Nurse Manager Acute Care)

The Assistant Nurse Manager (ANM) will support the Nurse Manager (NM) in overseeing operations of a nursing unit/patient care area. They foster team development, ensure compliance with standards of clinical practice, and serve as a key liaison between staff and leadership. This role combines clinical proficiency with leadership responsibilities and is often considered part of the succession plan for future NM positions, providing opportunities to develop management skills.

https://youtu.be/LM35k1p_3Tc?si=OYdVLJgrv6Jbwh7l Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following: Serve as the first line supervisor of nursing personnel in the patient care area ensuring the head nurse/NM retains VA Handbook 5007 requirements (examples may include but are not limited to supervising the nursing assistants and/or licensed practical/vocational nurses (LPN/LVNs) in the patient care area or supervising the nursing personnel on evening and/or night shift). Approve schedules and leave for employees under their direct supervision. Appraise performance, recommend performance standards, and recommend performance awards for employees under their direct supervision. Serve as hiring official during the recruitment process for employees under their direct supervision. Recommend proposed discipline or grievance adjustments for employees under their direct supervision. Draft schedules and leave for final approval by the NM. Provide input into the performance of employees with the final evaluation completed by the NM. Assist with making recommendations for selection of candidates for employment. Apply clinical knowledge/judgment to lead staff involvement in planning, decision making, and evaluating outcomes; provide feedback to the NM who ultimately ensures nursing personnel provide timely nursing care that complies with generally accepted standards of practice. Oversee work assignments and provide reports of contact or assisting with fact findings as needed to provide the NM with the information necessary to make recommendations for counseling and/or disciplinary actions.
