Job description
The Miami VA Healthcare System's Nursing Service is seeking an experienced and dynamic Registered Nurse-Outpatient Ophthalmology. The Outpatient (Ophthalmology) Staff Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for providing competent, evidence-based outpatient care to patients with oversight of oversight of unlicensed assistive personnel {UAP) as appropriate to the setting. Assumes responsibility for the coordination of care focused on patient transition through the continuum of patient care, patient and family education, patient self-management after discharge, and supporting factors that impact customer satisfaction. Duties include but are not limited to: Assist in directing the provision of nursing education, orientation, competencies and providing quality improvement and enhance outcomes utilization. Provides nursing care tor the patients in the eye clinic and assists providers with minor procedures. The nurse participates in time-outs with providers. Provides training to patients on proper administration of topical medications to improve compliance with prescribed therapy. Checks vital signs for preoperative assessments, reviews eye medication administration instructions as per plan of care and/or orders, assists nurse practitioner and/or physician assistant with coordination of schedule and provides preoperative instructions given to the patient. Follows up with postoperative patients via telephone to improve compliance. Follows-up on patient's condition at 1 week or other appropriate interval after surgery to review treatment plan and reinforce regimens. Coordinate plan of care with provider and patient. Prepares patients and assists with examinations, procedures and treatments. Nurtures a compassionate environment by providing psychological support.
