Strategic Communications Specialist

Organizational Location: This position is with the Department of Homeland Security, within U.S. Customs and Border Protection, U.S. Border Patrol Headquarters, Strategic Communications Directorate, located in Washington, D.C. Additional selections may be made to include other organizational divisions and/or units within the duty location(s) listed above.

As a Strategic Communications Specialist, you will provide clear solutions to complex communication problems and provide management with communications tools for disseminating information about new programs and initiatives. This position starts at a salary of $121,785.00 (GS-13, Step 1) to $158,322.00 (GS-13, Step 10). Typical duties include: Developing, implementing, and evaluating the effectiveness of USBP communications strategies, materials and programs that support and promote enhanced engagement with USBP stakeholder communities. Providing clear solutions to complex communication problems, and the agency with the best possible solutions and tools for disseminating information about programs and initiatives as well as highlighting accomplishments. Providing outreach to critical agency stakeholder communities, including internal workforce, media, Congress, intergovernmental partners, and the public. Planning, researching, writing and editing internal and external communications products to keep stakeholders informed about USBP operations, programs, priorities, and initiatives. Identifying and addressing public and stakeholder misunderstanding or indifference to USBP programs and policies as well as providing communications-oriented recommendations and subject-matter expertise to management.
