Organizational Location: This position is with the Department of Homeland Security, within U.S. Customs and Border Protection, U.S. Border Patrol, Swanton Sector, Massena Station, located in the following locations: Massena, NY Newport, VT Additional selections may be made beyond the total number of vacancies specified using this vacancy announcement. Relocation Authorized Position: Relocation expenses have been authorized for this position. Please be informed that within 90 days after your report date, you will be requested to provide valid documentation confirming that you have established a residence closer to the new duty location. Further information on this process will be provided to you during the selection process. This position will allow you to use your expertise to prevent illegal entry of aliens into the United States by land, water, or air; enforce criminal provisions of the Immigration and Nationality Laws; and seek out and apprehend smugglers or aliens who are in the United States illegally. As a second-line Supervisory Border Patrol Agent (Assistant Patrol Agent in Charge) you will serve as a secondary law enforcement officer (under 5 U.S.C. 8331 (6C) and 8412 (d) and be responsible for: Serving as an advisor to the PAIC and being responsible for identifying operational challenges, devising solutions to ensure compliance with enforcement and operational practices, and apprising the Sector management if delegated of deficiencies and providing solutions. Overseeing all phases of operations in order to determine effectiveness, adequacy of equipment and compliance with Agency policy and directives. Managing, directing and coordinating assignments consistent with the Border Patrol mission and objectives by detecting and preventing the entry of illegal aliens, narcotics, illicit contraband, terrorists, and weapons of terrorism from entering the United States. Conducting various duties for Station operations that include various activities of enforcement, detention and processing operations; seized property; fleet maintenance and supplies; facility construction and alteration requirements; budgeting and procurement; multiple technology projects; office management and community relations and partnerships with other agencies. Directing and coordinating Station-wide intelligence and interdiction activities, both foreign and domestic, involving the collection, correlation, evaluation, and dissemination of intelligence information.
