Supervisory Customs & Border Protecton Officer (Canine)

Organizational Location: This position is with the Department of Homeland Security, within U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Office of Field Operations, Cargo Operations Examinations, located in Queens, New York.

Joining the Customs and Border Protection Office of Field Operations will allow you to use your expertise to address anti-terrorism and border security enforcement activities. This position starts at a salary of $128,904.00 (GS-13, Step 1) to$167,578.00 (GS-13, Step 10) In accordance with CBP Directive No. 1335-018, U.S. Customs and Border Protection Rotation Program and to meet agency needs, this position will be filled on a temporary basis not-to-exceed (NTE) 1 year, with possible extensions for an additional 3 years. You may be returned, at any time, to your former position. You may be placed in the same or similar position with equivalent grade and pay. The return is not subject to the procedures found in 5 C.F.R. §§ 351, 432, 752, and 771. All Selectees will be required to sign an Employee Rotational Agreement as a condition of employment. At management's discretion, you may be permanently placed in this position without further competition. In this second-line supervisory position you will become a key member of a team of Homeland Security professionals detecting and preventing terrorists and instruments of terror from entering the U.S. Typical work assignments include: Directing and/or developing processes to improve passengers processing, baggage, cargo, and/or carriers Providing technical advice on import and export of cargo and merchandise and articles accompanying persons; international mail compliance; arrival or departure of vessels, aircraft, and vehicles involved in international trade; and/or counter-terrorism and anti-smuggling activities Managing budgets and monitoring resource expenditures at the port level for the Canine Program Performing cost studies and analysis to develop accurate estimates of costs of operations, equipment, etc Managing the Canine Program and exercising line authority over the Supervisory CBP Officer (canine) and all port canine teams throughout the area of responsibility If going from a LEO Covered Position to a Secondary CBPO Special Retirement Covered (SRC) Position: Please be advised that when you enter on duty in this Secondary CBPO SRC position you will no longer be covered under the Special Retirement System for Law Enforcement Officers, but will only be covered under the Federal Employees Retirement System (FERS).
