Job description
This position is located in the Department of Health & Human Services, Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, Center for Medicare, Hospital & Ambulatory Policy Group (HAPG). As a Supervisory Health Insurance Specialist (Temporary), GS-0107-15, serves as Deputy Division Director, planning and coordinating the development, analysis, interpretation, and evaluation of legislation, regulations, policies, and standards governing Medicare payments to acute care and long-term care hospitals.
Directing staff responsible for developing, analyzing, interpreting, and evaluating Medicare hospital payment legislation, regulations, policies, and standards. Supervising employees by assigning work, setting priorities, evaluating performance, addressing workplace issues, and identifying development and training needs. Developing and updating national payment policies for acute care hospitals, long-term care hospitals, excluded hospitals, rural hospitals, and provider-based entities. Advising CMS leadership, federal agencies, congressional staff, contractors, providers, and other stakeholders on complex Medicare inpatient payment policies and requirements. Resolving complex, sensitive, and high-visibility program issues by evaluating risks, identifying policy options, and recommending appropriate responses to leadership. Managing policy analyses, special studies, contractor activities, and project teams to ensure timely, accurate, and cost-effective completion of Division responsibilities Overseeing the preparation and review of regulations, rulings, manuals, guidelines, memoranda, policy letters, and instructions communicating Medicare hospital payment policies.
