Organizational Location: This position is with the Department of Homeland Security, within U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Office of Field Operations, Miami Field Office, Fines, Penalties, and Forfeitures Staff, located in Miami, Florida . This position starts at a salary of $113,356.00 (GS-13, Step 1) to $147,365.00 (GS-13, Step 10) In this Supervisory Paralegal Specialist position you will become a key member of a team of Homeland Security professionals providing key legal support for the law enforcement duties at the port level. Typical work assignments include: Supervising the day-to-day operations of a Fines, Penalties & Forfeitures (FPF) office service area and processing the adjudication of all liquidated damages, penalties, fines, and seizure cases. Reviewing and processing all cases within their area of authority through to final adjudication and solution. Receiving, examining, and evaluating petitions filed by individuals, attorneys, and/or corporations or other legal entities seeking relief from seizures, penalties, fines, and/or liquidated damages. Reviewing and making decisions as to the acceptability of evidence in fraud cases, significant seizure cases, and in any case of unusual circumstances and/or complexity. Assigning work to subordinates based on priorities, selective consideration of the difficulty, and requirements or assignments and the capabilities of employees.
