Supervisory Park Ranger (Interpretation)

This position oversees Alaska's Interpretation, Education, and Youth programs, supervises regional staff, manages the Alaska Public Lands Information Center, directs partnerships and cooperative ventures, and leads the River, Trails, and Conservation Assistance Program. These efforts ensure effective public information, resource understanding, recreation opportunities, and meaningful visitor connections.

The major duties of this position include, but are not limited to the following: Principal advisor to the Regional Director, Deputy Regional Director, and the Associate Regional Directors concerning interpretation, education, youth programs and partnerships in all park areas in the region. Directs fiscal management for regional interpretation, education and youth programs, including development and implementation of financial plans and operating programs. Represents the region on national, regional, and local work groups related to program areas. Provides leadership in developing strategic plans for achievement of regional and servicewide goals and objectives. Works collaboratively with other program leaders throughout the region to coordinate interpretative, education, youth programs and partnership initiatives and activities and works collaboratively to address region-wide issues of concern. Physical Demands: The work is generally sedentary requiring mental more than physical stamina. Frequent travel to meetings is required, sometimes in remote locations. Working Environment: Most of the work is performed in an office environment, with occasional visits to field sites that may require walking outdoors for short periods.
