Job description

You will serve as a Supervisory Park Ranger (Interpretation) in Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve.

Some of the major duties you will perform include but are not limited to the following: This position is located within the Division of Interpretation and Education at Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve. Based in Thibodaux, Louisiana, at the Wetlands Acadian Cultural Center, the incumbent serves as the Supervisory Park Ranger of the three Acadian Units of Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve: Wetlands Acadian Cultural Center, Prairie Acadian Cultural Center (Eunice), and the Acadian Cultural Center (Lafayette). The purpose of this position is to plan, direct, and execute interpretive programs, personal services, education programs, and partnerships dealing with multiple natural, cultural, and historical themes for a variety of audiences and visitors at all three sites. Performs the full range of supervisory duties, including recruiting, hiring, training, writing position descriptions, setting performance standards, developing daily work schedules, assigning work, providing direction, evaluating work performance, auditing interpretive programs for accuracy and technical details, counseling, coaching and developing employees and recommending staff for awards and promotions. Manages daily operation of visitor centers, including information desk, general visitor services and public information, interpretive programs, exhibits, audio visual program, VIP program. Develops new and innovative interpretive programs, which focus on defined park goals and objectives. Maintains liaison between the National Park Service and cooperative agreement groups, including the Lafourche Parish Library and the Thibodaux Playhouse. Develop working relationships with local public interest groups, craftspersons, musicians and funding sources to develop a strong volunteer pool and for interpretive programs and exhibits throughout the Acadian Unit. Identifies and sets priorities for all three sites' needs for facilities and visitor center exhibits, self-guided tours, equipment and other support elements.
