Job description
This position resides within the Secretariat for Special Operations (SSO), Office of the Assistant Secretary of War for Special Operations and Low-Intensity Conflict (OASW(SO/LIC)). Under 10 U.S.C. §§ 138 and 167, the ASW(SO/LIC) is the principal civilian advisor to the Secretary of War for special operations and oversees SOF readiness, resources, equipment, and civilian personnel.
Incumbent typical work assignments may include the following: Develops and executes the Secretariat's integrated legislative engagement plan to secure and sustain authorities, resources, and policy support for SSO and SOF programs. Integrates legislative strategy with SSO and SOF capability-development, readiness, and resource oversight portfolios. Directs development of speeches, talking points, and executive communication products for ASW(SO/LIC) and the Director, SSO. Leads strategic outreach to industry, academia, and allied partners to strengthen understanding of SSO and SOF priorities and modernization initiatives. Supervises a multidisciplinary staff of civilian, military, and contractor personnel specializing in legislative analysis, communications, and outreach.
