Job description

This position serves as the Supervisory Supply Technician (Medical) for the Medical Supply Distribution (MSD) areas of Logistics Service within the VA Health Care System. As a Supervisory Supply Technician, you will ensure that supplies and material are distributed to all areas serviced by Logistics by directing, supervising and managing the primary inventory point that receives, stores and issues supplies and materials for both clinical and administrative service areas of the medical center.

Duties include, but not limited to: Supervision: Supervises a team of GS-2005 employees in the distribution area of Logistics. Plans work to be accomplished by subordinates, sets and adjusts short term priorities, and prepares schedules for completion of work. Assigns work to subordinates based on priorities, selective consideration of the difficulty and requirements of assignments, and the capabilities of employees. Develops and executes staff training. Evaluates work performance of subordinates. Gives advice, counsel, or instruction to employees on both work and administrative matters. Supply Distribution: Working through subordinate staff, directs and oversees management and distribution of all supplies and material in the VA Health Care System and supported catchment area with the following responsibilities: Maintaining stock at primary and secondary inventory locations for all clinical and administrative services. This involves pulling stock inventory and material from main inventory for delivery; replenishing stock inventory; interacting with clinical and administrative customers to ensure that issues and needs are identified and resolved or escalated to Inventory Management Specialists as needed; maintaining records on stock levels; recommending revisions in stock levels as needed to supply changes to Inventory Management Specialists; communicating any concerns related to supplies, equipment and procedures, providing information as needed orally or in writing regarding customer or external stakeholder issues, general telephone inquiries and visitor referrals; communicating with customers and vendors to obtain information regarding medical supplies. Inventory Control and Receiving: Working through subordinate staff, directs and oversees the receipt of the supplies and material into the VA Health Care System and supported catchment area. The duties include unpacking/uncrating supplies from shipping cartons; properly storing supplies and material in main/primary inventory areas. Stores items in accordance with established guidelines, utilizing computerized inventory system, to ensure sterility and integrity of the supplies and material and the data integrity of the inventory management system. Performs other duties as assigned. Work Schedule: 7:30a-4p, Monday - Friday Telework: This position may be authorized for telework.
