Job description
This vacancy is for a GS - 2150 - 11, Vessel Traffic Mgt Spec located in the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Coast Guard, SECTOR NEW ORLEANS WATERWAYS MANAGEMENT DIVISION in NEW ORLEANS, Louisiana.
You will serve as a Vessel Traffic Mgt Spec and be responsible for promoting the safe and efficient movement of maritime traffic in an assigned geographical area, ensuring that vessel traffic is properly informed, advised and directed in order to reduce the probability of collisions, rammings, groundings and ensuing environmental damage. Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Typical work assignments include: Provides continuous direct vessel traffic management services as a Vessel Traffic Control Specialist in a Vessel Traffic Center Ensures that vessel traffic is properly informed, advised, or directed in order to reduce the probability of collisions Monitors the progress of all vessels, and informs, advises or directs vessel operators, masters or pilots in an assigned area Anticipates and intervenes to resolve user conflicts or confrontations resulting from conflicting uses of the waterway Monitors, informs, advises and, when necessary, directs the movement of vessel traffic in the assigned sector Reasonable Accommodation (RA) Requests: If you believe you have a disability (i.e., physical or mental), covered by the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 as amended that would interfere with completing the USA Hire Competency Based Assessments, you will be granted the opportunity to request a RA in your online application.
